I would like to run some OLD steel wheels (ford) 14" (bolt pattern is same) so I can mount old Ford Hubcaps on my plain 1995 Ranger XL. It's boring... it does have ABS and the 4.0 V6 and 241k miles... I just want to change things up.

Anyone tread in this area? I looked in the wheel forums.. everyone is messing about with aluminum Ford Wheels from Mustangs and such.

I have a friend that messes around with old Cougers (the CAR!) and I might see if he has an extra wheel for me to test fit.
I'll post back if I get around to that... otherwise if someone has been down this road please advise.

Thank you.

Are you already running steels? If you are on alloys I'd stick with them, better quality and a little less unsprung weight.

Yes I have steelies.... just ones that don't accept old hubcaps... I have those styles steelies with 4 spokes sort of.

Dang I looked at Google images for 1995 ranger xl and x and NONE have the standard steel wheels like I have.
They are a "4 spoke" desgn... OEM ford 14". The bolt pan flairs out and is welded to the outer rim, there is a Ford cap that covers the 5 lugs... mine are pretty darn rusty now.

I stopped by my Cougar restorer friend and I have a FMoCo 1969 Cougar stock steel wheel in my possession I will let you guys and gal know how it fits/drives.

Looking at these:

Expensive...? I should be able to get some old steel wheels for $20 each and I have my eye on 2 diff. sets of 1960's Ford Hubcaps for $140 (Fairlane "spinner" caps) and 1969 Mustang standard caps for $85. I have a soft-spot for 1966 Ford Galaxie/Bronco caps to.. I came home from the hospital in a 1966 Yellow Ford Galaxie with those caps on it.

Cougar wheel didn't fit... center hole slightly small for Ranger Brake rotor.

Be cautious of the early and mid 60's wheels, some of them don't fit disc brakes. The profile of the rim is different and contacts the caliper. While not an advocate of it, I have seen where the center hub ( of the wheel ) has been ground out to fit the hub.

AFAIK the rims for RBV's are NOT hub-centric. So you could grind/drill out the center hole with-out too much worry [IMO].
I was researching making my own offset steel wheels and maybe you can use the links for your own project;

Some of these sites may have nothing for you but others may find them interesting.
Good luck,
