When i am in park my truck has the usual 3k limiter but when i go to drive and get on the gas my truck has no limiter at all allowing the truck to rev past the gauge before it shifts (only have done this once on acident). was wondering if i have to get one set? or if there is somthing i can do to fix this issue.

What do you mean by "rev past the guage". The 3k rev limiter in neutral/park is a safety feature. You wouldn't get very far if there was a 3k rev limiter while driving...

There is a speed limiter in drive but no rev limiter. A really hard downshift or flooring it on a hill or something could easily rev to 5-6k before an upshift.

The P/N rev limiter and the lack of one when in gear are both safety features.

You have absolutely no need to have the engine revved above 3K when you aren't in gear. On the other hand limiting the RPM to something that low while you are trying to drive will seriously limit the vehicles ability to move, particularly to accelerate quickly, and getting most engines to a speed that will damaged them when in gear is difficult, unless you are going way too fast.

it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
There are 4750 rev limiters on some calibrations under power.

In gear though, not sure these systems get enough fuel to kill them. Mine runs out of fuel about 6400. Which is past red line.

A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
Redline is 5500.

Personally i never rev anything over 5k unless its under odd circumstances. Hell even the wifes escape ill let off and let it shift at 45-5.

Rarely do i ever go past 4k

Yea I just don't want to blow up my truck (and it's kind of nice to have one so it shifts before reving past the usual redline.) I am probably going to just go to my local tuner and get one set thanks everyone!

If you have an automatic that is blowing past redline before a shift to the point its gonna blow up the engine then there's something wrong with the transmission...

I am pretty sure there is a rev limiter when in gear also. I know my 02 4.0 SOHC does. It is around 6200 rpm. I have hit it a few times when maximizing acceleration. I won't go into why I was doing that. At first it feels like it starting to miss out then it just shut down until the rpm drops back down.

When I had my custom tunes made they were going to bump up the rev limiter. I told them I did not want to rev it any higher but I wanted the speed limiter bumped up.

I have a manual transmission so the only thing that does the shifting is me. So, it is easy to hit the rev limiter, especially in lower gears. I don't recall ever doing it in 3rd or 4th. I don't think it has enough power to do it in 5th.

If you were doing anywhere around 95mph+ that was the speed limiter cutting in. It will intermittently cut power to the injectors until you slow the hell down...

I hit a rev limiter in my race truck (91 4.0l stock drive train) at about 5200 rpm.

That seems ridiculously low... I can easily hit five grand on a super duper uphill launch. :dunno:

Its not running right now or I would go check. I'm going by memory, and mine is not so good sometimes.
