Honestly, if you have the space, get a cheap cover for it and come back to it at a later date. You could always get the Wrangler unlimited and set it up for off road, then as time and funds permit, fix up the ranger to be used as a DD or backup vehicle at some point down the road.
I kept my grandfather's Mercury Grand Marquis. I use it on nicer days and when I have to carry more than myself and one person. It also get significantly better gas mileage than my Ranger. Also, I like knowing the entire history of a vehicle, and how it was maintained, what parts were replaced, etc.
