I have motorcycles now

So I now own 2 motorcycles. They are my first street going 2 wheelers. Been riding dirt most my life.

One is a 2002 suzuki bandit 1200 and the other is a Yamaha virago 1100. I like them very much.

Doesn't anyone else like motorcycles too?

Grew up with bikes...had BSA and Triumphs in the 60's, Hondas in the late 60's, Harleys in the 70's. Did a stint as a motorman on the PD in the early 80's, riding Harley's.
Retired and rode Goldwings until 2005 when wife and I decided that at our age if something happened, it would take a looooong time to heal, so gave it up.
Lot of fun though....good memories.

Sounds like a great history with bikes for sure. I wanna do some road trips on em and what not. I feel like a vacation on a bike would have just enough suck in it to make the adventure a real memory.
If the fun comes too cheaply it's not cherished like it should be lol

Had a goldwing from 2001 till 2005, with matching trailer. Switched trips between motorhome and bike touring. Longest trip with the Honda was 3 weeks on the road.
Lots of good memories.
If you have the chance, there is nothing better than touring on a bike.

I always liked the idea of having a bike. I either never had the money for one or the space to keep one. So, I never got one.

2004 Honda Shadow 750. It aint fancy but for occasional cruising, It’ll work. My dad sold his bike a several years ago, friends who’ve had them didn’t keep them long - so nobody left to ride with anymore. If I took long trips, i’d want something bigger but like i said, nobody left to run with. Paid 4k for it 11 years ago used , pretty much new. Somebody bought it, added pipes, windshield, saddlebags, put about 1100 mi on it then sold it. Bike was cheap, insurance is practically nothing. Thats how i roll. Hell it only has 10k on it now. Trying to ride it more lately.

I live in NJ... there’s approximately 8000 cars per square foot on NJ roads and 7,473 of them don’t watch where they’re going. You’re pretty much guaranteed to get run off the road within 4.5 seconds of pulling out of your driveway on a bike.
I still have a motorcycle endorsement, but I won’t ride in this state ever again.


I may have exaggerated the numbers slightly, but you get the point.

Main ride is a 2013 Victory Highball, lots of modifications.
2003 EN500 Kaw. Vulcan rigid chopper/bobber, completely modified, fun as hell to ride.
Working on a 1978 Suz. GS1000 rigid drag bike right now… gonna be scary… in a good way

I enjoyed my bike until one day, on way home, light went amber ahead. So I stopped for the coming red.

The Pathfinder behind me tried to run the light, then realized I had stopped in front of him. He jammed on the brakes sending the Nissan into skid.

His rear bumper missed my leg by about thickness of sheet of paper.

There had been couple other times when cars lane changed to where bike was, but you could sense they were coming and avoid them. The one at the lights, I was sitting duck.

I didn't have balls enough to ride again that season and sold the bike then next. Didn't help that 2 neighbours I rode with were hit shortly after my incident, one fatally and the other isn't the same since.

I have a '81 Honda XL250 and haven't ridden it for about 3 years for a couple reasons... one it's 6V and the rear lights don't work very well and haven't had time to clean the contacts (apparently that's most of the problem with 6V systems). But now that it's mentioned a couple times above it's scary enough some days driving a car around...

Not to mention that 250 is gutless, stock was I think 17hp... and it's heavy and has little suspension travel but is fun, I need to get it going again...

There's certain highways I don't ride down. Like I won't ride to work cause people don't pay attention in cars let alone for bikes. If I see a dude in a bike I try to kinda cover them ya know. Stay close and watch out for em

I have had 25 bikes in the past. Mostly dirt bikes, hence my screen name which used to be my cb handle ( remember those handheld devices?) Only rode my 1974 Yamaha RD 350 rocket ship for a year on the street. No major problems . Just a few close calls. Enough to stick to the dirt, cause trees usually don't move. Best piece of advice I ever got was, ride like you are invisible to everyone cause most won't see you anyway.

I've had several bikes. First was an '82 Suzuki GS750E. Got it running, and figured out what the controls were by staring at it and just started riding. A year or so later I actually took the MSF class (for the record, I do -not- encourage going in that sequence!). Hit a deer on the 750 and stopped riding for a couple of years. Eventually picked up a 250 Rebel and rode it for about a year, then a Vulcan 500 and put something like 20k on it. Now I've got a Vulcan 750 with a torn down engine (spun a bearing) and an '83 Honda Silverwing that's been a pile of parts from the day I bought it. At this point in my life I need to get rid of both and come back to riding down the road when I'm going fewer directions.

Both my parents rode Indian Chiefs, my father wouldn't call those motorcycles, they'd be Jap Bikes. I never heard him say Harley Davidson, he either called them Hardley Ablesons or trucks.
