Hey guys I have a 2001 Ford Ranger edge 4x2 with a manual transmission that I’d like to convert to a 4x4, and I have a 2002 Ford Explorer sports trac 4x4 that I’d like to use as parts (front axle, transfer case and all the parts) four the conversion. Are these parts interchangeable.??

Welcome to the site.

I'll let the experts tell you. I have no clue.

iirc, the 2002 Sport Trac has a wider tread than the Ranger, so I think you will need at least different cv axles up front.

Since the Edge has the torsion bar front suspension, you should be good with the parts you already have there. I am not certain if the Edge frame has the mounting points for the front diff or if they left those parts off, so that would be the first thing I would suggest you confirm.

the grey-t escape
I thought the whole point of the edge pkg was a 2wd that looked like a 4wd , so why did they even have the 4wd version- just get the 4x4. I have no clue on doing a conversion, my newest ranger was a 97 and I currently have a 94. Welcome to trs.

I may be wrong but the edge should be torsion and an 02 sport track should be coil spring. So they would be vastly different frames so nothing from the front would be interchangeable.

With a welder and grinder everything is interchangeable.

I've yet to find a way to weld a $1 dollar bill into a $100 dollar bill...

Trade your welder and a one dollar bill for a one hundred dollar bill.

Problem solved.

A 4wd Sport Trac should still be torsion bar until the second gen came out around 04.

I think the front end stuff is the same between a Ranger and Explorer. They guys with the craptacular vacuum hubs raid Explorers to upgrade to a live front axle.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
