Jay, did you get this problem worked out?
Thanks for asking, but no. I have been having Firefox save my passwords, but I don't prefer doing that, and I still have to enter my user name first. I want it to be how it was, I want to simply open the browser and go.

That idea came to me a couple days ago, I can't believe I didn't think of that sooner. I'm glad to know it works, I think I'll try it....

Here is my guess Jay. Check to see if Firefox is deleting cookies automatically. Sometime updating messing around with the way you have it set. If it is deleting cookies and history data that would explain it.

Bringing back this old thread cause I had the same thing happen. A couple days ago I updated Firefox and now I no longer have to type in my passwords anymore and am very happy about it. Anyone else experience this?

A few days ago, Firefox updated automatically, but I was still having the same problem. Seeing your post, I went to check for updates manually, and after updating, the problem is now finally solved!

Im glad they finally fixed it. Got sick and tired of having to enter passwords over and over.

A simple solution is to change your bookmark/homepage. If you bookmark a page or make it your homepage before you log in, when you do log in its a different address just a little bit. Anytime this happens to me i just log in and reset my bookmark to the page im on and it doesnt happen again.

Go to your options, in your Privacy tab, and select "use custom settings for history".

Several more options will pop up, then select "keep cookies until they expire."

If you set it by default to the most secure settings, which it often does when it updates, it reverts to dumping cookies every time you close the browser.

Same here. There was no combination of settings that solved the problem.

Everything is fine now with v3.5.6

EDIT: I have a question. Is there any way to block Firefox from updating? I don't like software updating itself automatically, and nowhere in the settings did I even see an option to choose whether I wanted to auto/manually update. I don't know if I'm just overlooking it or not, but since this version is working the way I want it to, I don't want any more updates.

Go to the "Tools" tab in the toolbar, click on "Options". Select the "Update" tab, and uncheck all of the boxes. They also give you the option to be prompted when updates are available.
