what would i have to do to put a f150 rearend in my ranger. i broke my 7.5 axle in my ranger and its expensive to get somthing bigger out of another ranger. i have the f150 in my driveway and its about to be taken off the road so just wondering if it would work.

New spring pads run about 20 bucks from 4wheelparts. There's also an article on using square tube in the tech library.

Check on the size of your drive shaft U joints. You might need a conversion joint. I'm guessin around 40 bucks from dana spicer.

To make up for the wider rear, you could get spacers/adapters for the front and run the same lug pattern all around. If there's still a huge difference, some wheels with a different offset might do the trick.

What year is the F150? Might wanna take the front end too. (Depending on the year)

If your rig is a 4x4, make sure you've got the same ring gear ratio between the axles or you'll fawk your transfer case.

My 02 fx4 blew her rear too and i can get an 8.8 with 4:10 gears from 1987 f150 with a 300 six 2x4. I have been searching on this forum and found this topic only. Sorry to hijack it but same questions I guess so hope it helps.

How much wider? I would think it would have the same drive shaft output plate. Must sell adaptors for 5.5 down to 4.5 or vise versa 4.5 to 5.5. Could play with spacers or offset wheel to equal out and a new set of fender flares would hide them.

to my knowledge a set of axles from a 1979 f150 will work for the ranger since they both have the same suspension set up just needs to be fitted to the ranger frame.

I have already started this project i"ll update with progress reports

I know its a bit of an old thread but I was wondering just like jlracing how much wider the 1992–1997 F150 rear end will be compared to the 1992 2.3L Ranger 2wd so i know the size for my fender flares and beams?

Why not get under there with a tape measure and find out? :) (I'm supposing you have a parts place to dig around in? )

My credo
A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...

This might help.

From 73-86 the F150 was 65 inches (roughly)....im guessing 87-96 is in that neighboorhood..maybe exactly

Ranger (8.8) is 56 from 90-92. Going to assume the 7.5 is the same as the trucks were the same.

Either way its alot of difference to make up.

lets not forget Ranger axles are offset, wider on the drivers side. "choose wisely".
