Energy Suspension Tranny Mount (too tall?)

Hey guys,

Just put an energy suspension transmission mount under an fm146 (2.9l 1989 BII). It is a bit taller than the OEM. Had to cut a bit of the cross piece on the body to allow the transfer case flange room to rotate. Anyone have any experience with these mounts?

Is the mount specified for the truck? Raising the back of the trans will change the driveline angle and could cause vibrations. A stiffer mount will also transmit more vibration into the chassis.

Yeah, it was designed for it, even said so in the literature that came with it. I have lifted a few trucks in my day so i am very familiar with the vibes your are speaking of! I already have a 2 inch lift on, so the chance of vibes is growing for sure - the good news is the engine is running so crappy right now I couldn't tell if there was vibes at all LMAO. I have had great luck with that company, so I went with them. I may go back to a standard OEM style unless someone has some experience with these.

I honestly didn't think of that - slap on the forhead. It might actually only be 3/8 inch or less higher - I only had to bend the body metal about that much. For those of you running OEM mounts, how close is you transfer case output flange to the body?

I would check your body mounts too. Maybe your body is sagging a little.

I don't recall how close the t-case was to the body on any of my Bronco II's, it's miles away on everything else I have now. I agree with sno, I'd be checking body mounts, especially the rear ones. You should have way more clearance than that.

It always sucks the first time a doctor says "that's to be expected in a man your age".
Seriously, the flange shouldn't be any where near that close to the floor, something's wrong.
