If anyone has a good link for Replacing a 87 to 90 Ranger's Ignition Switch, with all the steps used and with illustrated pictures..

Maybe, you could include it with your reply, if it's not too much trouble..

How long does it usuallly take to do this, and do you need to lower the steering column and take out the cylinder lock, also, to disconnect the rod that goes from there into the ignition switch, during the installation of a new ignition switch..

A link that I read from, http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/threads/ignition-cylinder.870128/, (Says) ~ Some of the symptoms of ignition switch problems are things that don’t work or are intermittent like radio, turn signals, wipers or heater.

There was a FREE recall on Ford ignition switches. They overheat and sometimes catch fire. That burns up the steering column and sometimes the car interior. Since this is very old information, you may not be able to get the switch replaced for free anymore. The auto parts stores sell the switches for $13-$15.

On the 87 Ranger the ignition switch is really quite straight forward. Two screws, one plug, and two security torx bits.

Take the two long philips screws out of the steering column and take the plastic shrouds off, then find the long plug on the column with a bunch of big wires going to it. Unplug it and remove the two gold security torx bits. The switch will just come off and a new one can just be placed on the column. Might want to run to Harbor Freight and grab their 100-piece master security bit set before starting.

Also, these were not the style of ignition switch that caught fire.
