I'm wondering if there is anyway to use the VSS to check how fast the vehicle is going through the internet? kinda like like the Vehicle Commander thread in the communications forum but with a longer distance?
I know I would have to modify a wireless router, splice it in, and more but do you think it could be done?

thanks for the ideas and wisdom

modify a wireless router? what kind of range are you trying for?

find a "black box" that plugs into the obd2 port and records

Work hard and play harder
I think it is NOT possible. It uses 2 different signal protocols. Plus you would either have develop the software to understand the signaling or find the software that someone else made. Why would you want to jack around with the VSS? It speeds your speedo which is in front of you when your driving it.

it would be for when I let my housemates drive I know how he drove their car and that is why its no longer drivable. Perhaps a couple mile radius, I just want to make sure he isn't doing anything retarded in it basically, I'll look into the black box BRUTUS

You'll be lucky to get to the next house on your street with a typical 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless router. You'd be better off with a way to record the data and then retrieve it when the car is back at the house.

Dude...you just need to NOT let the idiot drive your stuff. If you do not trust him...why not kick the idiot out or move out if it is his place........

as above ^^ x2.
if that isn't an option, then just get one of those security systems that only let him get a couple of miles then shuts down. tell him the range he has and he better get back or else that will be his last time driving it.

hey Strvger any more info on the security system?

Also found a Real time logger for it called The SnEEC
