This is one of those telescoping brushes you use to wash a boat or RV. The extension collapses when I reach a certain angle in the process and the head will swivel if I'm in a tight spot and need it to stay put. It's almost brand new and I hate to replace it if it can be fixed. I can count the times I used this on one hand. TIA

The bottom seal should seal it from leaking
The one above it is to grip the metal tube so it doesn't slide when plastic cap is screwed down tight
Tighten cap also holds seal down to prevent leaks

Upper one should have a gap so it can grip/squeeze in on the metal pole as cap is tightened

Is the plastic cap cracked?

Thanks Ron. No, it's intact and I can tighten it until I seem to run out of threads. The split washer isn't worn already, is it? I'm trying to think of a way to 'take up space' in hope of getting a tighter grip on the tube. I don;t use the hose connection so no worries there. I run a separate hose with a gun for the rinse cycle :)

If the pole pulls out or you can get the nut off the end if you unscrew the brush head, add some O rings in there somewhere to increase the compression.

Thanks. Tried that. The brush itself will screw off (female threads) but the part it screws onto (male threads) is epoxied on (or something to that effect) and the pole has a hard stop when fully extended.

Correction: the male side seems to have a drift pin through it and the pole. Hmmmm. Thinking. Do I want to knock the pin out? Can I knock the pin out...?

I have a work light that extends by the same principle. I tried to fix it and eventually screwed it in the extended position. The cheap plastic wears out...

Unfortunately not an option. Have to store it in a RV compartment. You know how that goes.

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.

Small bolt and a wing-nut will do the same thing, only easily undone when you need to store it.

Wrap some electric tape on the metal tube down at the end and slide split washer over the tape, then see if it will tighten up better with a slightly larger diameter tube

Crossed threads are tight threads.
Choose your favorite length and make it permanent. Or throw it in the trash and get a new one online for 2 bucks. You will never get back the time wasted messing around with that thing. I give myself a very brief time allotment for things like this, life's too short.

Drill a hole thru plastic fitting and tube, then insert a clip/bolt, then remove to collapse
