So I have a 96 ranger which has (had) an engine with a Cam Synchro. I didn't realize my mistake In sourcing an engine from a 94 that doesn't have a Camshaft Synchronizer. Now I'm stuck with an engine, mounted and hooked up that will never run properly without that Synchronizer. Is there even a remote possibility that I can add on the Synchronizer to make this engine work or am I screwed?

Currently the Engine starts and dies instantly but after 10 or so starts it will hold an idle and allow me to drive to the yard to park it. So i am assuming the computer is right confused as to how or where the timing is for the injectors.

Any help? Solutions?

Thanks

Is there a hole for it to be added?

There is. I wasn't able to get my fat hands to pull it off, but there looks to be a cover over the hole and the hold down tab as well

Yes, all the parts are there for the synchro to be added. I had to add one to my truck. If you take the hold down out there is just a drive slug, it has the gear and the cavity for the oil pump drive rod. It is basically like someone cut a synchro off flush with the block.

I have my old one in by box of spare parts at work. I can take a picture of it tomorrow.

The engine should run without a Cam position sensor, it runs injectors in Batch fire mode instead of Sequential.

The '94 4.0l came with and without Cam position sensor, depends on where it was sold.
So retro fit should be possible.
