well...i threw the rock auto out there so i had an idea on their pricing...and maybe the parts store was an hour in a direction you dont go.

autozone or napa or whatever... the point was its its cheap. and easy.

if the axle flange was bent you know the backing plate took a hit... i sure as fawk hope those guys inspected the carrier and put a new crosspin in.

you need to check to see if the axle is straight enough it wont kill you in the snow or rain at speed.... unless you dont drive in snow or rain.

i can usually tell if its bad just working the endplay.
Dude I didn't even notice you posted rockauto pic. I'm just frustrated with them and wanted to slam them. Nothing on your post internationally. No idea what the shop did. Just told me the axle was replaced. My backing plate has a lip on the top. Only about 4" or so and the flattens out with the rest of the drum seat. Tried filling it. Need better file.....

bleeding the brakes doesn't help the shoes set correctly.
the springs are supposed to pull the tops of the shoes in until they contact the big pin. that action forces fluid back into the lines.
the bottom is set by the adjuster. due to different manufacturers or tolerances I have occasionally had to file the slot in the adjusters
to pull the shoes in far enough.
one technique I use is to lay the drum down and place the shoes inside it. find something the exact diameter of the pin and place it between the tops
of the shoes, put the adjuster in and see if it all fits.
it's not all that unusual to fine tune the fitment of rear brakes.

it's real easy to check the backing plate. bolt anything to the hub that you can manipulate to touch the rim of the plate. then rotate the hub.
a piece of wire like a hanger works perfect. since the axle has some in-out play, keep even pressure on it.

if the axle shaft was bent, how about the wheel?
Will definitely look into that after I do the other side. Maybe I didn't but something in its proper place. Wheel is true, other shop checked before I took it to axle shop

Hammer....big giant wonderful hammer for backing plate....without the wheelcylinder installed

But a straight unit from the yard is ideal

If its the plate, I'm going back to the shop. He shouldn't have done the axle with a bad plate, or at last asking if I cared. Why pay him, just to undo the seals and take the shaft out again? Better not be that's all I'm saying

You put the shoes on backwards... primary (smaller) shoe goes to the front.

No park brake strut either...

Ya, I noticed the strut after the cylinder and the fluid made such a me I didn't want to go through that again. Still got the other parking brake and it's manual so in gear anyway. As for shoes, didn't realize at all. Will it make a difference?

Yes... the lions share of the braking force generated from a drum brake is with the secondary (larger) shoe. The brakes will wear out way faster... the heat generated will most likely glaze the shoe and not stop worth a damn.

Probably best the pull it back apart... install the shoes in the proper place and put the park brake strut back in.

If it's not broken Don't Fix It!
@Dvine if you haven't already since the pic was taken, pick up 2 cans of brake cleaner and clean the parts as well since they look oil coated and greasy. I'd give ya one if you were close because every time I go to my buddy's shop his dad tosses me a new can of it. It's a really handy cleaner except for on plastic or rubber parts.

Used a whole can of kleen before starting job. The adjuster arm only spins one side. Used knock her loose and soaked it, and it won't budge on the small side. But even so, they feel great. Just went down street and turned around. Don't know how to stop brake fluid when line is removed from cylinder. I figure if is dripping out then it can't get an air bubble in system.

When they come back apart... you HAVE to free up the adjuster. Add some heat... it will come apart. Then you can adjust the brakes... or... buy new adjusters.
