I have a 94X with A/C and I want to delete it. When I bought it, the previous owner had already cut both ac lines. Because of that I want to pull ALL of it out. I have already pull the piece from in front of the raditor, the driver upper line, the passenger line to the black cylinder piece in front of the ac box, the electrical wires to the driver upper line, wires to the ac pump and the connector to the main harness. What I am looking for is how to remove the piece from INSIDE the ac box in the engine compartment. I would like to eliminate the half box next to the passenger valve cover. To be able to cover that with some kind of sheet metal or something.

If anyone has a photo of deletion I would appreciate it.

PS Yes I have searched. I have been looking for the last four days. I looked under ... ac, ac delete, a/c, air condition delete but just not finding what I am looking for.

What exactly is your reason for being to adamant about removing every last vestige of the A/C system? Particularly the evaporator core? If you are worried about water intrusion just fill the core with Great-Stuff triple expanding foam.

Or you can go to the junk yard and find a factory non-AC box.

I have looked at the 4 small junk yards in the county. There in one 93X at one yard and the other three yards do not have any 1st gen XPLRs. A different yard has a 92ranger and a 96 ranger and ALL with air. What ranger years spread could I use for a non-a/c that would work on my 94X? (Example 1923--1936) Yes I know I picked really wrong goofy years as the example but it made the point.

The reason for wanting to elimanate ALL the a/c stuff and in particular the air box and evaporator core is to open up room by the passenger valve cover and spark plugs. If I am not going to use the a/c anyways why not get rid of this waste of space. I THINK I can bend and seal some sheet metal to seal the new opening.

Thank you for your response and questions.

I can respect that thinking. The only car I've dealt with that had an A/C delete had a much more open engine bay. But that was a 6-cyl on a car that had an option for a small-block.

I found a 92Rngr that does not have air. Would that "air box" or, non air box really, work on the 94X? It looks like it might. If so, then wouldn't one from a 89-92? OR was there a change during that 4 years? Thank you, Chris

any NON-AC firewall box from 1983-1994 will bolt into your first gen explorer and look like both God and Henry Ford intended for it to be there.

There are three NUTS inside the engine bay that hold it on and the fourth nut is on a stud that sticks through into the passenger side foot well near the fuel inertia switch.

I STRONGLY recommend you make one modification to your truck while you have the firewall box out of the truck... cover over the ROUND opening with a pieces of metal or fiberglass window screen before you re-mount the "new" firewall box.
