So i have a 97 Ranger XLT with the 4.0. I have officially ran out of ideas as to what could be wrong with my heater. It will only circulate air from outside into the cab. I cannot get heat at all and this is a problem due to the fact that i live in Alaska and it gets pretty cold up here during the winter. The previous owner did his own modifications to the heater (guy thought he was some sort of super mechanic). So the problem is this, i can get air to blow through all the vents so there is no vacumme leaks. The heater core was checked and replaced. The hoses that lead to the heater core are getting very hot once the truck is warmed up like they are supposed to. The heater controll valve was removed so it is just getting a straight flow through the heater core. Also the heater blend door from the inside of the heater box was removed. Meaning that it should be stuck on heat only, yet i am unable to get any heat to circulate through the cab. I had the dash out and checked to make sure that all the hoses were hooked up and electrical was connected and everything was getting the right amount of electricity. I am fed up and out of ideas as to what to do now, any help full posts would be appreciated as it is getting cold up here!!!!

The air luke warm or cold? I'm thinking a faulty blend door or blend door motor was your problem and by removing it, you didn't fix the problem.

The air is cold. The previous owner removed the blend door completely.

I think you need to put a blend door back in, even if you don't install it to work. Just put it in the position to direct hot air in. I believe cold/cool air is mixing with the hot air which is making it not hot. When you say the air is cold, is it the same temperature as the outside air?

This is my only guess.

It is a luke warm air flow. Not hot enough to defrost though.

Translation: The previous owner is a dumbass.

Get the blend door back in and it will start working.

The blend door doesn't just shut off air flow from the heater core. It shuts off air flow from the cool air duct.

What you have now is the equivalent of setting the temp knob right in the middle and then gluing the knob in place.

yeah finally got the time of day to work on it. After the 3 hours to get everything out it ended up having both the blend door actuator taken out as well as the blend door itself. Previous owner for some damn reason though that was a good idea?? Thanks for your guys inputs it was appreciated. Got some nice warm air blowing out of there finally!!
