Help! I just bought a 94 ranger 4x4. Everything is good except there is no 4x4. When I press the switch nothing happens. The lights next to the switches do not come on and neither do the lights on the dash. I cannot hear any clicking sounds either. Be nice, this is my first ranger!:icon_confused:

Mine been this way since I bought it. Had the mech look at it and he said that the driveshaft was turning, but the fantastic Ford auto lockers were dead. I guess these go out in the hubs-pure junk I was told. let me know you routcome.

cacher, I've heard about the hubs before, but that shouldn't make any difference to my 4x4 indication lights, plus I would still be able to feel the transfer box kick into 4x4

So, today I went for it!
Fuses OK, although the one under the hood is a 40a instead of a 20a
Switch OK tested and replaced with one from a Junk Yard
Module Test Light flashing OK, also replaced with one from Junk Yard (just to try)!
The only thing I could find wrong was - No power to the orange wire at the shift motor.
The link says to check the orange and the yellow wire with a volt meter. Connect the meter and press the 4x4 button - meter should read 12v, I got nothing!
I'm going to recheck this last step again tomorrow!

Got it working

I decided to take off the shift motor as everybody said it was so easy to do, and they were exactly right. On opening her up, the stop was smashed into 3 or 4 pieces. I made a new stop, cleaned everything with contact cleaner, greased the worm and she's working as good as new 2H 4H and 4L!

If anybody is going to attempt this check out the "serious explorations" website as well as this one - excellent stuff.

Me too - I can now cut out some new 4x4 decals for my truck! (I have a vinyl decal cutter)!
