I have a 93 4wd, that all the ball joints are shot, they need to be replaced, my question is on the front upper ball joints, do I have to replace the whole control are or just the ball joint.

You find me an upper control arm on a 93 Ranger and I'll give you the recipe for the Philosophers Stone.

As adsm08 is so "nicely" trying to point out, 93 ranger didn't come with upper and lower control arms. So no to buying a control arm. The ranger from 83 to IIRC 96 has TTB[4x4] or TIB[2wd].
TTB = twin traction beam
TIB = twin I beam

does anyone have a guide on how to do this?
