I have a 86 ranger 2.3l. I was looking in my haynes manuel and at the tech library and both have the number one spark plug wire terminal near the power steering pump. My number one is near the throttle body. I still have the same firing order. But i was just wondering which one is right? And if you look at the tech library I have my number one where they say is number two.

Technically as long as the distributor can move far enough to get it in time whatever works is right. I went to school with a guy who put the dis in 180* off on our timing test. It didn't start right away so he flipped the wires across the cap and vroom.

As long as it works and you know which wire goes to which cylinder #1 can be anywhere you want it to be.
