I have a 2000 Ford Ranger 3.0 Rwd with a manual trans and was thinking about doing the 5.0 engine swap but i want to still keep it a manual. Does anyone know what trans I would need to use for the 5.0 engine. Any help is appreciated thank you
Welcome to TRS
Yes, as said above the 1996-2003 F150's used a 4.2L V6 engine, that engine shares the same trans/engine bolt pattern as the 5.0l(302)
It came with the M5OD-R2 manual trans, in 2WD format, 4x4 trans won't work in 2WD
Rangers used the smaller M5OD-R1, the R2 is larger to handle V8 power
The shifter is in the same place, so its a nice fit in a Ranger
When the time comes you will need to drill out the bellhousing bolt holes by 1/16" for the SAE size V8 bolts, the 4.2l used slightly smaller metric bolts
You can use earlier 5.0l(302) truck manual transmissions but the shifter arm comes up under the dash of the Ranger, so you need to cut a hole and make new floor plate and then make a custom bent shifter arm to clear the dash
Mustang 5.0l transmissions(T5) have the shifter farther back so comes up right at the front of Ranger's seats, harder to deal with but doable
The 1996-2003 M5R2 from a 4.2l is the best fit, plug and play, but not the only choice
