I have a 1994 Ranger, 4.0, auto, 2wd. It got rolled.

I bought a 1993 Ranger, 3.0, auto, 4X4. It wont even get out of its own way.

I know the 4.0 wont bolt to the 3.0 belhousing but, can I use the 4.0 belhousing/torque converter on the 4X4 trans? Or am I way off in left field here?

they dont have fixed bells, and the swap can be done. I would inspect the pump before doing the swap.

you can even swap the tail shaft and housing to keep it a 4x4, but it is too hard for your average home tech, but can be done.

the way your doing the swap is best 4.0 a4ld is a little bit stronger than the 3.0 a4ld.

the T/C cant be swaped 4.0 has a diffrent stall rating than the 3.0

when you swap it, the bands need to be reajusted to (10ft.lbs. then backed off exactly 2 turns.)

now would be a good time to replace the fluid and filter. (try to find a screen type)

you can use the 4x4 pan and filter on a 2wd but not the other way around.

Let me know if you need more help.
