Im currently working on building a 302 to put in my 2000 ranger and im wondering what the best route would be for tunning.

the motor, trans, wiring computer everything is out of a 2000 explorer, and going into same year ranger so should be the simplest of engine swaps as far as my research has shown. All except for tunning and disabling PATS, I was planing on going with the TWEECER RT setup but i know nothing about acually tunning the motor.

So my question is, is the tweecer the best route or is there better?
And does it come with a tune already loaded, or is there a different one i could get that does?

As much information any one can provide on the subject will be helpfull.

Are you doing anything else to it, like a cam?

The trans is also out of the same vehicle so should be good there, and i will be giving moates.com a call, but ive been reading a little about there stuff and tunning the eecv and i understand like nothing, to the point that i probably shouldnt be messing with tunning. im gonna need to find someplace to tune for me, or someone that can teach me.

i can get by....but prefer to have big stuff done at the shop.

i live in mi.

take some time and buy some eec5 books. worthy investment and the newer stuff is far superior to eec4 with the ease and low cost of tuning now. the old stuff is falling apart inside now....time to upgrade to t least 2000 stuff.

That all depends how you look at it. With the mods he has (cam and port job), the EEC-IV would handle that with no issues. He wouldn't even need to call Moates.

agreed 100 percent.

but i have been running into issues with failed capacitors etc in the eec4 the last few years leading to nightmare unexplained/unfixable issues.

So read the books and id be atleast doing better but should someone with absolutely no clue on the subject be trying this? Or is it really not as difficult as it seems?

i dont know your capacities.

with a in tact explorer setup thats what i would run.

if you go the other way you need the other system.

budget is a major consideration.

900 bux gets a 10 year old rolling for the most part.

If you are worried, maybe try and find someplace local. We have a few shops around town that do this stuff. But really, it's not a huge deal. To me, swapping the motor and worrying about exhaust, etc. is the biggest hill you're looking at right now.

The way I'd approach this is...... if you learn now, you'll save yourself lots of money in the future. That is how I look at every project. Even if I have to do it twice, I've gained the knowledge to help myself or someone else in the future.

Im like the oposite of that, i know im gonna have to make my own headers and full custom exhaust, and im looking forward to that, i love that stuff its no problem for me, but anything electrical is like a nightmare to me. Im going to be rebuilding the 4r70w soon to, that will be a first but i will learn, following a book shouldnt be to bad.
