books are guides.

even rebuild manuals, especially for transmissions....consulting and parts inspecting with pro's really opens up abilities and lowers failure.

of course you are working with some easy to handle stuff.

bouncing ideas at web boards like this is good too.

As long as the computer has all of the inputs it should work yippie skippie. Compare the schematics from both vehicles and everything pins out and tests good at the computer. It can be time consuming but well worth the effort in the long run.

well from what i understand the entire engine harness and charge harness which i kept from the donor exlorer should plug right into the harness on the fire wall with no issues, sense all the ECM is attached to the actuall engine harness and dosent run through the dash with aception to the PATS system that i need to be able to dissable.

I could be wrong though i will see when i get that far.

Is something simpler like the SCT handheld programmer not and option at this point because its a motor swap or something? I just dont know alot in the area.

not sure on costs at this point but you can call and send into sct to get the pats shitcanned and the basic upgrades handled and move on from there.

When you do the 4R70W, be sure to replace the EPC.

Sent from a Commodore 64 using a 300 baud modem

Im not super concerned about the cost of the set up to do the tuning, the project is not really on any time frame for completion more like as i can afford to buy the next step.
So if the QH is the best route i will do that and just start looking around for a tuner to do that part for me, and once its up and running i can learn as i go from there.

Depending on the cost of sending the EEC to SCT that might be a good option also just to get the truck running, then go QH tuner later down the road.

And as for the trans rebuild my plan was the "monster in a box kit" from monster transmission, this isn't really a trans post i know but i am trying to learn as much as i can before tackling that job to try to minimize my chance of failure, which from what is been reading is what usually happens to first timers rebuilding auto transmissions.

What is this Monster in a box kit? Does it come with a valve body?

For your knowledge, go SCT( I did). You can buy a handheld for 379 new, and with that you get 3 custom tunes for your mods. Later on, you can spend the extra coin for the moates system...

You will like the x3, it gives you user adjustments like shift firmness, early or late shifting, idle and rev control, speed limit control (i use this when my heavy foot gf drives it, I limit her to 65mph), adjust fuel at wot, adjust timing at different rpms, as well as the ability to data log with or without a wideband O2 input. I have an X2 I bought used and bought custom tunes for mine. My next handheld will be a livewire from SCT...

the heavy on the moates for me is its cost effective down the road for multi vehicle.

just double check whats needed on the pats.

Thanks, Bobby. That's my only issue with my handheld (then again, most handhelds are ), is you have to return one car to stock (ie, unlock it) to tune a second car.

So i like all those point made about the SCT, but which one do i go with the X3 or the SF3. and can SCT disable PATS?

still looking, the live looks pretty awesome should i just go strait for that?
not sure if i really need to store 10 different tunes but it would look pretty cool custome mounted in the dash where the radio is now.

I have the x2, which is the same as the x3, just not as much internal memory for large file tunes. My x2 is for my 02 sport Trac, I deleted pats, EGR, rear O2's, and some other emissions (i wish I would have deleted all emissions, my next handheld I will). I'd ask a dealer which handheld to go with (you can't purchase them straight off SCT's website) and they can help you choose, as well as help you with the custom tune.

So all those thing are deleted by SCT in the tune correct?
