But as for the 75% thing, if range is 250miles on full charge then at 75% there is 187 miles left
So you have already driven 63 miles assuming round trip is another 63 miles home then you have 124 miles to roam around "town" for appointments before heading back that 63 miles to charge up at home

I never said "around town". "They" want to push EV's for everybody. Therefore "around town" is no longer a necessary part of the equation. If I go to work for half a day, then to my doctor appointment, where I get the battery topped off in the parking garage. Then I leave to go to grandma's house in another town and need to be there in time to take her to an event that starts at a particular time. There is no time in there to go home and charge the battery. It needed to be topped off during my Dr appointment. This is not an unusual type of scenario for many people.

Regarding "define majority"; I'm content with the classic definition "the greater number." Which would be more than 50%

Stay at home, work from home, Amazon and "Skip the Dishes" addicts

Seems to me the only real practical solution for EV is a standardized battery swap system. Nio in China has one.

Might work well for fleet systems. Delivery trucks, etc where hundreds of them float through the same center on a regular basis and the vehicles are standardized.

It's already being done with cars.

I assume you mean swapping out battery pack in under 5min. with fully charged battery, vs charging the current battery
It would then be a matter of local labor cost and cost of electricity for the fully charged battery

I don't think there would have to be one "standard", maybe 3 or 4, if a couple of EV makers can decide on a "standard" then thats a selling point, which pushes other EV makers to adopt it or try to set their own "standard"

The battery packs themselves should last 300,000+ miles, Tesla say says maybe 500,000 miles then it will only be at 80% with full charge so 20% less range
But there is not a lot of history in "real world" applications yet, and battery tech can move pretty fast

They have enough experience with batteries on the EVs now that it has been documented that best battery life and battery performance is achieved with the battery spending nearly all of its time between 60% and 80% charge, and only going under 60% or over 80% periodically. (You do need to go down to around 20% and up to 100% once in a while, like every few months, to retain the full capacity.) Most of the good chargers can be set to stop charging at a desired point (i.e. 80%) so you don't overcharge them. Damage to these types of batteries mostly occurs at below 20% and over 80% charge.

I want to be the one who gets to do the real life stress test and I want to do it with the accelorator to the floor between Sacramento and Reno where about 80 miles of it is continuously uphill.
