Hello ranger station,

I'm currently in the process of converting my 1991 ford ranger 2.9 4x4 auto, to a 1.9 volkswagen turbo diesel with the Mitsubishi FM146 transmission and manual transfer case.

First question what rpm does the 2.9 with the a4ld run at 100 kms/h(60 mph).

second question what is the throw out bearing clearance? (I may have the wrong term but if someone has an idea what I'm talking about please jump in)

I know i'll have tons more questions but these are a couple i need to figure out before i start machining out my parts. if there are any diesel conversion threads please link it for me

This will be a pretty cook swap. Never seen one in ranger but have on sammi's. Are you planning on making an adapter for the fm146 to mate to the engine? What about motor mounts.?

Rpms IIRC is around 2000 or so.

little worried

I'm a machinist (but i was a welder before:icon_welder:) in a full metals shop so i will either make an adapter plate or I'll make an entire new bell housing not to sure what is the easiest way will be

im wondering if i should install the tranny to the 2.9 for now to make sure everything is correct before i go any further to cancel out the issues of the standard transmission put on a some km's then continue unless some one can promise me that it will work

I have two motorcycle i have to get done before i can get too intense into this seeing as its more of a hobby truck then a daily driver.

Can't go wrong with a 3.0 I 5 :)

A om606 would be sweet but I think it would be hard to fit it in without major firewall work
