So I started with a 1996 2wd 2.3l 5spd ranger. Clean, my sister bought it with 10k miles on it and we've had it ever since. She put a 6" lift on it and I drove it for a while then wanted to wheel it.

So I got a tj dana 30
8.8 out of a 94 4x4 ranger welded it to a spool
Trans from 89 2.3 ranger 4x4
1350 and 1354
Then the fun started.

Built a y link with 1.5 and 1.75 .25 wall DOM and 7/8 and 3/4 heims.
Built a tie rod, trac bar, drag link with 1.5 .25 DOM
XJ 6.5" Coils
Stock rear springs with blocks and shackles

Put that in with a custom crossmember. Wheeled it at dog party with some 35's I came across.

Then I got some 36" tsl's and went wheeling at a local spot. Blew a tire off the bead and ripped my brake line off.

Oh yeah I also made a rear bumper. My harbor freight kinker did its job! Still going to make a front bumper with winch mount and all that fun stuff. After I fix the core support that's broken:sad:

I got the 30 for free. That's the only reason it's in there. Really planning on one tons and linking the back this winter. Then V8 on propane. Eventually. Thanks.

Propane really limits your ability to carry extra gas, doesn't it?

edit - not trying to sound dickish. Just sayin'...

Well each 40# forklift tank is 8 gallons. So two of them mounted on truck would be equivalent to 16 gallons of fuel. So a large fuel cell. Have one or two more full and I'd have 32 gallons available. The benefits far outweigh the cons. Simple, effective, easy, cheap. Seeing as I already own it.

Killer build man! Part of me wants to build a doubler for my 2.3...how did the two play together?

Awesome!! Pretty simple and it works great. Mid range is awesome. I converted mine from 2wd to 4wd in 9 weeks. Including the doubler and swapping in the 8.8

Well I'm well past the 9 weeks range on my conversion :icon_rofl:

I might PM you about some doubler questions later today, to help and see if I would even consider it.

Put all new stainless braided brake lines on the front end. Got good used shafts, replaced u joints to get it wheeling again. So I started addressing the interior. Pulled carpet out, cleaned floor up, put bedliner down, installed my race buckets and harnesses. No finished pic yet.
IMG_20130602_205419.jpg
Then I cut off the rocker so I can build my 2x3 sliders. Slowly making progress.

well a lot has changed since my last post. Cut the rear frame down about 10 inches, built a rear cage. Made a new front bumper, changed my core support. Poly cab mounts. I also got some tube doors. No pics of those yet.
