O.K. this is likely a crazy ****ing question but i have to ask.....

Is there anyway to swap the entire drive train of an 06 b4000 4x4 under a 96 xlt 4x4?

I know these trucks didnt change all that much but did they change enough to make it all a straight swap?

Feel free to ridicule as im prepared for the honest truth.

I ask because I need an engine for my 96 so i was planning to do the wiring conversion any way BUT i would love the automatic (i never go off roading nor haul stuff) and the donor b400 is an automatic.

You could do it. The newer front axle won't go though. The 4.0 SOHC is a bit taller I believe, since it's oil pan is deeper, you might need to deal with that.

As for the rest of it, should be straight forward. Wiring will be a bigger issue than the actual physical fitment.

wiring as in what? i was thinking I could take the entire harness front to back, dash included and swap it ALL. That way its just labeling the wires and taking it out of one truck to the next. same mount points to boot!.

By front axle wont go, does that mean its a physical impossibility for a direct swap or that the fabrication is in excess?

If it truly cannot be done, will the 96 front shaft mate to the transfer case?

Will the 96 transfer case mate to the 06 trans?
