Progress has slowed down to a crawl. I can’t shake the thought of selling the truck or parting it out and finding a 1st gen Explorer.

I started having an idle issue where the truck will randomly shut off but only at idle and only when it’s hot. It immediately fires back up. I don’t trust it very far at the moment because of this issue and I haven’t had time to get after it with a meter.

The only thing I’ve accomplished since I got the winch mounted back up is to make and paint a rear crossmember.

With a random stall like that it's one of two things, either the IAC is sticking closed sometimes or the TPS isn't going to below the point where it initiates the IAC to get ready or however that works (RonD is out for a while, I don't remember exactly how that works).

I've been frustrated with mine, never fully got the ambition to get everything worked out, hang in there if you can, I can't let go of things so I just accumulate more...

Small update:

My stalling problem was a failing MAF sensor and the TPS was below minimum voltage. Replaced the MAF with a new Hitachi unit and an NTK TPS. All seems to be well.

Finally got the front bumper back on with the winch mounted. Remote mounted the winch controller connector.

I can mount my plow pump without removing the winch now.

Radio mounted. TYT 9800D plus programmed for ham and GMRS. This radio is 50 watts max on vhf and 40 watts on uhf/GMRS and functions as a cross band repeater. It’s clipped on to the factory springs for the garage door opener compartment door.

Body of the radio is mounted upside down on the floor so the speaker faces up.

And finally, took my 12 year old Aussie doodle, Jazzy, camping. She’s mostly deaf now and starting to loose her vision. This was most likely her last journey. She doesn’t do well with traveling anymore and has seizures when things get too overwhelming. She is by far the most patient, trusting, loving dog I’ve ever had.

The old Ranger is the only vehicle she will lay down and sleep in.

That’s all for now. I need to make a new plow mount and I’d like to get a sway bar on it yet. Later.

Thanks! I wish I had a fabricating table to pin it to while I welded in the fairlead box. Bumper has a bow in it now but I'm fine with it.

Took a look at modifying the plow mount I made last fall to fit the older frame but the mount just isnt wide enough. Next best option in my mind was to start over completely. You can download AutoCAD LT for a 15 day free trial so I did. The end result was a plan to weld mounts to the bottom of the winch plate. Here's what I drew up;

Pic 1 is the outter plate and will have a tab welded into the notch on the left that will reach out to the forward most sway bar mount hole. The notch on the top right will wrap around the back of the winch plate.

Pic 3 is the afformentioned tab

Hopefully have everything cut out this monday.

That’s slick! I’ve never messed with auto cad or anything. You cutting that stuff out with a grinder at home? Or have access to a plasma table?

Also what do you think that bumper weighs?

I have access to a high definition plasma table. The pin holes are 1.125” for reference.

As far as weight goes, I think I had figured out at one time that the bumper came in around 70 lbs.. I can easily pick it up by the bull bar and hang it on the truck myself. It bolts to the fair lead part of the winch plate then has some outriggers that bolt directly to the frame horns higher up. I’m trying to keep it to where I don’t need the chainfall to disassemble the front end.
