I was informed a few years ago that the term twin sticks is typically used for trucks with dual transfer cases. I still refer to mine as twin stick occasionally though.

Mileage at 197,000 seems mighty low to rebuild that transmission. I had mine done at around 240,000 miles and am sorry I did it. They replaced the 5th gear and reverse cluster. Those parts are no longer OEM and are now made in China. I have gone through two more 5th gear replacements plus a totally remanufactured one since then. I am on the second remanufactured one now, but plan to order another 5th gear for the rebuilt transmission in case the remanufactured one fails again. I am going to have the 5th gear parts cyrotreated this time to see if that helps. I hope they did not replace your 5th gear with the after-market one.

Enjoy, they are very capable Rangers.

The perfect is the enemy of the good.
Twin stick was oem? What's the engine?
Are those Canadian dollars or US dollars? Don't know if it makes a difference, at one time they were different.
Looks nice. Buckets?

Yes you are right two T-case sticks...one for crawl and one for....not crawling I guess. The kid I bought it from said he brought it in for a clutch at the shophe works at and was advised to rebuild it while it was out. Now you have me worried lol.

If it has the 4.0l SOHC engine be sure to change the 2 timing chain tensioners with motorcraft brand when it warms up a bit, 2001-2004 had issues, and all 4.0l SOHC engines should have these replaced every 100k miles in any case

Less than 2 hour job, tensioners are external access

Also if 4.0l SOHC, watch the thermostat housing for leaks, its plastic and cracks, there is a 3rd party metal unit now available

Always turning the front though from what I was told. Not that it matters. Pigs on fuel but hey....fun factor!

That one one passenger side though....ahhhhh. So nice of Ford to do that just so you could interchange heads. Brilliant!! And the thermostat housing is metal so it was already replaced. I will have to look at a video of doing those tensioners, although there is zero noise on cold starts but still...cheap insurance. Thanks and cheers from Saskatchewan.
