It's not that kind of locker ... unless you just wanna tear it up first day.
yes. it is that kind of locker. ghosting it from the traction control will take tuning.
The subject of the e locker comes up again...
I swore I was gonna stay out of the discussion until all the information was available... and I'm gonna.
When Jim was driving the New Ranger around the off road course and had the engineer (I forget his name now) sitting in the passenger seat... at the end of the video... when the engineer was done... the camera pans back to Jim and he says... that's it? I was was hoping Jim would have said... so, what can you tell me about this electronic locking differential and how does it fit into the overall strategy of Trail Control and Terrain Management? That question would have probably answered a bunch of the questions I have about how it actually works.
it is a e locker. similar gkn unit just like the jeep and colorado.. last i seen it was a dana m200/220 with gkn available in rear.
even the normal traction control on the other hand will get pissed off if you simply bypass it and run it manually. it wants it off at 20 mph or whatever it is set to... so you need a tuner and build a program that will ignore all of that nice stuff. there is a way to bypass on the raptor without programming for 4-500 bux that plug in....likely work with the ranger but for that money i will go with hp tuners...
ford has a pwm type setup for it that varies the voltage so some were worried it would burn up. but a few guys left them on battery chargers for a month and they dont burn up....and a call to gkn in auburn hills from you gump will likely lead to a better explanation and more ways to mod it.
just a regular dpdt bypass if you have a tuner, like gets done with higher power raptors and the other big trucks. jeeps are more "tolerant" of such mods because of programming..turn off traction control and turn on locker.
its a hd 44 so you wont be breaking shit with 33 inch or smaller tires very often even on dry pavement....because....donuts.
"The EDL also is lockable up to more than a 200 rpm speed difference between two wheels on the same axle."
that quote is from an article from 2006....

pretty solid design.
