need help with axleshaft removal

I'm doing my ball joints and I got the driver side axle shaft out okay, but I'm having trouble with the passenger side axle shaft. My Haynes manual is telling me to remove the two metal clamps on the boot in between the two shaft pieces but I've never seen clamps like that...How do they come off? Are you supposed to reuse them after you get it off or do you have to go buy new ones? Where would you buy clamps like that? Thanks a bunch.

Cut them where they are crimped (they are raised there) with a pair of good wire cutters, then when your done you'll have to go buy two hose clamps or I suppose good zip ties might work if you got them good and tight.

I just did this back in Jan. when installing locker, u-joints and c-clip eliminator, and since then the metal hose clamps have worked beautifully.

I have been using zip ties on boots on all sorts of vehicles. so long as they are not the dollar store crapola ones they work just fine. you do have to get them fairly tight.

I haven't had one break or fall off yet.

On the other hand. If you are extremely careful you can recover that crimped on clamp and reuse it. I have done this as well.

In the end though I tend not to bother as the zip ties work just as well and are a heck of alot less effort.

Hate to jack the thread....but i am doing the same job and once i got that axle out i noticed the slinger that is pressed on the end of the axle is junk. Does anyone know what this is called at autozone? they didnt know what it was and couldnt help me.
