2001 ford ranger xlt ext cab flareside windshield replacement questions?

My 83, removed the rear window dozens of times locking my keys inside, easy takes 10 seconds. Stick yer finger in the vertical (easy na) groove and pull the gasket up & out.

On my side windows there is etched water deposits or spots wondering if there is a product to get that off? That is tint safe as well. The water deposit is on the outside of the window. So i think i can just use whatever product that works on it without damaging the new tint. I read that vinegar works but i was hoping for something that is already premixed or formulated to work. Tint is on the inside of the window if i am correct so i should be able to rub whatever on the outside of the glass or will it affect or effect the inside as well.

Etching is 100% correct, it's from letting tap water set on the glass for too long of a time. Damaged permanently. Only polishing will restore the surface & remove the etching spots. I believe the tinted side glass is not a film, it's throughout the glass, so you should be good in that regard. 100% pure carnauba wax or other products can protect from tap water etching IF applied regularly- they can help the look also and minimize the etched effect. Never ever let tap water set on auto glass, it's the very first thing I hit with a towel when the carwash is completed.

Thanks for your reply
By side windows i mean the door windows or passenger and driver side windows. On one side of the truck its bad the water deposit is definitely etched into the side window. So if i Polish with Carnauba wax the etched spots will come off? Do i need the cleaner wax or the regular carauba wax. Is there a product that specifically takes off water spots? Or does it require sanding and polishing? I was wondering if a mobile detailer could get the deposit off for me using some kind of product they know of.

I did about 45 minutes of research and came up with a product called Ceriglass by Carpro. I am considering using this product to get the water deposit off my side windows. Anyone use this product with success?

Clear coat "aluminum oxide" polish will do the trick, but I like the diamond powder mesh 600 for glass also. The carnuba is more of a protectant once the surface is defect free. The absolute worst thing you do is leave hose water dry without wiping it with a towel quickly. Take some pics so we can see your progress. I need to do the same think here sometime in the next 2 months.

I keep nothing in my cab and never lock it but do as you please.

i don't either but i still don't like how easy rear sliders are to pop open. knowing the town i live in, i would come out and my handicap placard and bungee cords would be gone, and the window would be open in a rainstorm.

on a single cab though, i feel that slider is so nice since air flows easier through the cabin. i would actually probably use that way more than the slider i had on my crew cab truck and extended cab trucks. the single cab is right there to open and close easily versus the other cab types.

i might actually call the local window shop and see how much they charge to get and install one, now that we are talking about it though.

dang. i am torn now. how secure is it versus how much better airflow is.

forums are so cool because everyone can help each other out and you learn all kinds of things. and then the hidden part of forums they never talk about to people, the part that probably causes marriages problems and fights.... you see or hear about all these things you never knew you wanted and now you have to figure out how to get it without your wife finding out.

You are most certainly right, especially about this forum. The advice given is most certainly sage. There may be different points of view, but they are all well expressed. I credit the moderators and many of the members, including you.

There is a plastic latch on the slider which clicks when it is closed all the way, making it difficult to break in. One could pry it open, of course, but hey could do the same to a door or a window. A real thief would be more inclined to do that anyway.

If you like a slider, then just get one.

that was the issue, those plastic latches. apparently, you can just stick a butter knife in and they pop open like you opened it from the inside.

a buddy's truck kept getting broken into that way. he heard a noise one night and went out and a guy was in the bed of his truck with a butter knife popping the latch. he shot him dead but the cops told him that fords were known to be easy to get in that way so thieves would hit them as quick easy targets.

to me, thats not a good target since you are in someone's truck bed. to me, the dodges are way easier to get in since you can just unscrew the extended cab pop out window latch from the outside. then the window swings open and you can reach in and push the unlock button and you are free to pillage from the cover of being in the truck

I recall a friend who locked his keys inside his truck. He called a locksmith who opened the door in less than a minute using a door opener tool. That's why I never bother to lock my door.

A tool that you can buy online at that. No ID needed.

i never lock my truck either, ha ha ha. and i am talking about the plastic latch on the slider window like that.

i told the espousa i was going to call about that slider window yesterday and i forgot. i need to call today to see how much my favorite local window shop will change it out for

well dang.

the local glass place said they don;t even show the sliding window at their regional warehouse so they cannot get it. they said maybe ford has it so its probably not cost effective to swap out.

he did say it is interchangeable and its fairly quick to do so if i find one, they will do it at the house for me

ok, ford can get it. wo weeks lead time till it shows up, pay ahead and no cancelling once ordered. its 402 for the whole set up.

now, do i want one that bad, 402 and 250 to install is a bunch of money to replace my non-broken window.

if the window gets broken, that will definitely make it easier to buy.
