a set of aluminum Roller rockers at 1.7 for a ford 302 3/8 just went up on FBMP i’m wonder what are the chances they could work and if they’ll do anything, I need to tear the valve cover off to replace the gasket eventually so i was wondering the possibility of doing it while i’m at it..

People have used 5.0 rockers on the 3.0 in the past. But I don't think it's a simple bolt on. I think they typically machined custom pedestals for them, and there's some debate about whether the geometry is good enough to avoid premature wear to the valve tip.

Tom Morana sells 1.7 rockers for the 3.0. I'm pretty sure they're LS based with custom pedestals. They're nice parts, and will take any custom guess work out of the picture for you. I cycled them through the full range of motion when I installed them on my engine and I feel ok about the geometry being good enough to avoid the valve wear. But I also don't even have 10k miles on that engine yet, and I haven't pulled the valve covers back off to inspect for wear.

3.0 has 8mm, ( 5/16" ) rocker bolts.
the pedestal keeps the rockers aligned.
if you have to shim the pedestals that may lift them out of the guides cast into the heads.

The biggest reason i ask is because the rockers that came up were 125 rather then the 3-400 that tom has and because i have to dig into it anyways so it was more a passing thought “maybe”

I gotta question the quality of a set of roller rockers for a v8 that's that cheap.

Yeah I was too but looking into them both his car and the arms themselves hes was running them in his fox body and wanted to swap back over to 1.6 and the reviews dont look too bad but who knows honesty might be trash and ill blow my shit after that id probably would swap in something new so i wouldn't mind it

Those are stud mount rockers so you'd need to install 3/8 studs with guide plates and hardened pushrods. I have pedestal mount roller rockers in both of mine, 1.6's in the Mustang and 1.7's in the truck because I left the stock cam in it. The Crane 1.7's that were used on fox body Cobra Mustangs are still available fairly reasonable. Harland Sharp roller rockers for the 390 I'm building now would be $944, it's getting refurbed(by me) 427 adjustable rockers instead.
