1993 Splash in SC


I have really bad knees, so I would have mounted a box like that on top of the passenger tire kick. Access over the side...
And it would offset the lean from my overweight ass....
I have traditionally been carrying that box near the front of the bed. It contains tools, recovery gear, spare parts, ax, shovel, etc. I can climb into the bed pretty easy from the rock sliders and wheels even when my knees are acting up.

The box is positioned so that my easy-up canopy has enough room between the toolbox and the tailgate with just over an inch to spare. I believe my coleman stove(s) will fit nicely over a wheel arch. I still have to figure out exactly placement of my kitchen box and ice chests for camping.

Maybe I'll play with that for a few minutes before I get started again in the morning. Just to help visualize it in my head.
 
Ok. I played around with positioning things. I like it. One thing that I had been wondering about is where to mount the Hi-Lift jack. I think it will get mounted across the face of the toolbox, right below the padlock holes.

That's way too high. The location I have in mind won't require moving anything. I probably didn't describe it well.
 
It's the pictures since you have it sitting on the lid of the tool box... now that I read your post again about it being mounted about 4" lower than that on the FACE of the tool box it makes more sense... Looks like a good layout.

might sound dumb, but might be worth putting steps down continuing the wheel wells down a touch to the bottom of the cab level or something... I know my Ranger is tall and sometimes the top of the tire is slippery...

Steps get hung up on Rocks and roots and things. Nothing gets mounted lower than the rock sliders on my truck.

I wasn't talking of anything lower than that, your slider definitely covers the step department :)

Sliders are on my list for my Ranger, every year it seems to get higher even though the springs are sagging every year...
 
Rainy Sunday afternoon. I made the new wiring harness for tail light assemblies and trailer plug. It has a connecter to fit the OEM truck harness and also a device to adapt it from my 93 wiring with separate turn bulbs to these fixtures that share turn/brake function in one element.

I finished welding in all the panels today. Then flipped it over so I can finish all the bottom welds. I might be painting by Thursday. I think paint is just going to be Rustoleum primer and black topcoat rolled/brushed on. Easy, tough, easy to touch up later.

I hope it never gets in this position while I'm driving the truck.

Definitely try a roller on the expanded metal. In my experience.. using a brush on the stuff is a pain in the butt.
 
Those airless pair sprayers ( the ones that you just plug into a 110v outlet, for painting the outside of houses) are great for laying out some paint. I painted a whole truck with one using rustoleum.

Might be a good way to save a bunch of time, especially if you are not trying to get it to look show perfect.

You will lose a lot of paint trying to spray that expanded metal though.
 
No new pictures tonight. This afternoon, I finished all the bottom welds, capped off some open tubing and smoothed some stuff with the grinder. Also added some places on the outside where I can hook ratchet straps or bungee cords to tie down cargo.

In the morning, I'll add some little things to use to fasten cables in place for lights. Then do another overall inspection, finish any missed details, clean and start painting the bottom.
