2011 Ranger XLT 4X4 - "Business Casual"

Surprisingly cheap so far. Blower included, only have around $700 into it, which isn't bad by my standards for 5.5 psi. 😘

I could say no to that sound.... (I'll just keep telling myself that).

I would be curious to see your power numbers before and after. Would you consider putting it on a dyno?

All that work and money for how much hp gain? just wondering.... Not a lot of info about people putting turbos or super chargers on a ranger and I think there's a good reason for that. I love rangers but they were just way under powered no matter what engine you got, eco boosts included. I see why everyone builds up a chevy engine, parts are cheap and always available with tons of info on how people do it.

You came in late, both Whipple and Banshee made kits to supercharge Ranger engines. Not V8 swap common but they were not unheard of in the early to mid 00's.

The general rule of thumb is every 14 or so psi doubles power output of the motor.

So, depends on which cologne.

The sohc I'll be 800-1000 in to push 3.5 - 5.5 psi into it with methanol. Should put my rwhp in the 225+ range, which is what I'm looking for.

The other two big reasons for me to do the Banshee/Moddbox hybrid kit is to put torque back into the low end of the SOHC. it's had considerably more with the AFE intake and 340lph fuel pump, but still not enough low end torque for my liking.

Remember, peak numbers are bragging rights. I see the blower kit as a means to get what I'm after, a flatter torque curve.

Right at where I typically run the engine, the 1500-2500 rpm range, is the biggest torque gain. So, with a lot of the parts 70-75% off their original prices right now, I figured it was worth it.

The other reason is that I'm not stopping at 8psi on the 2.9. I'm going to have to learn to tune and how to work with the engine until I hit my eventual goal, the 400+ club, which means somewhere in the neighborhood of 21 psi. I know the engines will do it, I watched one do it in 2008/9 in Switzerland (didn't know it was a 2.9 at the time), so that's become my goal. So the 2011 is a bit of a Guinea pig for the tuning side.

400hp out of any ranger would be neat.... I think my money would be invested in something that has a lot more hp from the factory..... You're hoping to get 225hp AFTER all these expensive mods while I have 270hp from the factory from the ol' straight six Gets More Chicks Envoy. It honestly puts my old ranger to shame and I see why no one ever modded them especially the 3.0's. Them 3.0's are tough little engines and ran great but its not even close to power/comfort/ride quality as the gmc lol.

On a side note, i'd like to see these mods installed when your done.

Did you miss the part about Wipple making supercharger kits for the 3.0 back in the day?

I have two hemis, a 6.4 STR8 and a 241 Red Ram Coronet. Dad's 440 six pack behind them.

I'm getting bored with V8s, so time for boosted V6s lol

SKP aluminum thermostat housing and new Motorcraft ECT sensor.

Worth doing if you ask me. My plastic housing dripped exactly one time that I noticed, so took care of the issue before it became worse.

$26 on Rock Auto IIRC for aluminum housing with 192 degree thermostat installed. Part number was SKP SKRH144C.

Truck runs a bit smoother from the new ECT and thermostat, but now to figure out how to burp the system....

Mine's not a v8 but sure drives like one. It's actually and inline 6 engine that makes 270hp. Pretty impressive for a stock 6 cylinder with no turbos lol. Seems like ford could barely get the 4.0's above 200hp while gm had no issues..... You would have thought someone at ford would have tried copying something from gm like they always do back and forth and had something competitive to the gm 4.2l. Mine is only an 03 but they ran the 4.0's in rangers up to 2011.... Hard to believe ford didn't make a decent inline 6 engine to compete with it... I'd actually love to race a 4.0 liter just to spank it... or race your pimped out 2.9 someday. I may not have the ranger anymore but still cocky as ever. lol. I think my Gets More Chicks mobile could beat just about any ford ranger out there.... Bring it.

And yes i'm aware of the superchargers for the 3.0's but that was really about all you could get for hp other than headers, exhaust, tuner etc... However the wipple supercharger is $3500...… Not including install that's just the parts, so that's not a very reasonable mod as far as being wallet friendly.

Didn’t have to, V6’s do fine and fit better...

My wifes 12 year old 3.5 V6 is 265hp in a smaller/lighter carcass (Edge).

Companies don’t make those expensive kits if nobody buys them.

We should all just understand that our crows will never be black enough for some... Theirs will always be blacker.
