What's This? Lost Vacuum line? Where's it Go?

I have P0171 P0303 & typical problems and have read about it, but before I start digging in, I see something obviously missing! It looks like *something* should go in top of this junction thing near the master cylinder (Driver's side rear of engine) right next to the intake manifold. Peering into it, it looks like the two red lines out the bottom are tubes. It must be a vacuum line. I cannot find anything dangling that might to into this! What is it? What is missing and where can I find it? I will now attempt to attach two pictures. Thank you!

I'm not familiar with that engine. However, I wonder if that is where the brake booster vacuum line goes. Can you take a pic that shows the booster as well?

No, there is a 5/8" OD hose from the intake manifold to the brake booster.

Thank you though, you got me out looking at it more carefully.

I notice that the *white* line in my pictures that comes out the bottom (A second problem) is broken off where it goes into that black elbow. There is a thread inside keeping it from falling off. It goes to an assembly with a diaphram and what reminds me of the pressure adjustment knob on an air compressor, and a 3/8" hose coming in and a hose+pipe going through the intake manifold arms toward the fuel distribution (You can see this in the second picture).

Anyone have a service manual? Is there apt to be a chapter on the vacuum system? It looks like I have alot of problems here.

I don't have access to that FSM but I found this image that might be helpful. The VECI sticker might also help you find the location for the hoses.

Thanks! Something to dig into. Don't know what alot of the acronyms are. I'll keep looking. Normal situation, you learn in fits and starts until the lights go on! Hopefully it will continue rolling (cough) until I get it!

FSM- Factory Service Manual, VECI-Vehicle Emissions Control Information. Your VECI will look similar except for the diagram and pertinent information. On my 1994 Ranger it is found by the radiator support on the passenger side.

Sounds like a fuel pressure regulator.

Ford usually only uses red vacuum lines for fuel pressure regulators and the manifold to vacuum switch connection in EGR systems.
