2000 5.0 Explorer Swap Into 98 Ranger 4.0

You turned it upside down and let it fall out??[emoji3]

Damn right I did. The picture is straight for me lol.

Anyways I cut the back two cats of because they are behind the last 02 sensors and did not affect anything. The 4.0 fuel pump is the exact same pressure and the computer controls it. As long as its a returnless system

I did the same thing to my donor truck too. I was a fully loaded Mountaineer that was hit hard on the the passenger side. I may keep the thing around awhile to add some options to my Mountaineer. Doesn’t get used much anymore. But I like the thing too much to sell it.

This is also my plan to make a little more room underneath, plus I can scrap those cats along with the 4.0 cats and use the $$ for other upgrades.[emoji106]

I just sold all 4 cats and got a 100 bucks for them. Next year I am going to buy a set of torque monster headers. It will really open the truck up more and get better fuel mileage. They are 1000.00 for the set. But well worth it considering the money Bob has in Dyno and R and D.

I was looking at them. I think I’m just going to order them. Make life a little easier.

Call and talk with Bob he is a really good guy. He will give you an idea of hp, tq, and mileage gains. Oh and I'm jealous.

I’m debating on just rebuilding the motor now. The rebuild kit is so cheap and I want to do a cam anyways.

Rebuild parts aren't the issue. Machine work can get out of hand in a hurry. Mine was over $1400 as I recall, and it didn't even need to be bored.

I’m thinking it won’t need much. It had good oil pressure and the bores look good. What did they do to yours?

Be careful the cam you choose. The stock explorer cam is already great for low end torque. I feel it kick in around 2300 rpms on my ranger. How many miles is on yours.

I'll try to grab the list from the invoice on Monday. Crank had to be ground .010, rods reconditioned, cylinders honed, balancing, etc. I'm forgetting some obvious things at the moment.

It’s right at 200k. My other Mountaineer has 230 on it and uses a half a quart of oil every 3500 miles.

I'm learning very quickly my donor 2000 with 54k on it is extremely freaking rare.

[emoji15]very nice.

Mine has 165,000, but seeing that it’s free I can’t complain.

I paid a 1000 for mine. After all the parts I have sold off the explorer and my ranger and bought for the 5.0 I am 300.00 in the hole right now. I have to sale the old 5r55e with transfer case and come out even.
