2000 5.0 Explorer Swap Into 98 Ranger 4.0

98 explorer should be the same as your ranger no need to swap out harness just swap the tach wires around for the same gaige on back of the cluster.

The only thing I can think of is the wiring harness on the drivers inner fender where the connectors were reversed between the Explorer and Ranger, at least on my '99-'99 swap. That just involved removing the needed connector from one of the harnesses and grafting it into place.

Remove pin 8 Black/Yellow wire from 10 pin connector and remove the Black/White wire from pin 1 on the 16 pin connector and install the pin 8 Black/Yellow wire.
Ok, I’m new here and am thinking I’m overthinking this… is the wire swap all on the 16 pin or is it between the 10 and 16 pin?

From memory/reading that, you're transferring the black/yellow from the 10 pin connector over to the spot on the 16 pin connector where the black/white wire was that you'll need to remove.
