Rear Differential Fill Plug Location Concern

Forgive for this partial repost. I posted last week about some differential fluid change questions. I may have been too long winded. Mostly I am concerned about just one part of my larger post (Here it is, if you're interested).

When I look at everyone else's 7.5 open differential, the fill plug is on the drivers side on the top of the differential case. It is above the wing or shelf, the flat piece of metal that sticks out horizontally in the middle of the differential case.
However, my plug is on the driver side below that wing/shelf. Is that indeed my fill plug? It seems too low.

I can post a picture if needed, but it'll have to be later tonight.

Thanks for the help!

Well I doubt someone changed it, and they never did put drain plugs in them, so that's probably right. I don't think the axle was flipped, because then you'd have the plug on the wrong side of the truck.

More noticeable than that you would have 1 forward gear and 4-5 reverse gears.

I have heard of sneaky people doing that for demo derbys...

You are correct, that would be a big indicator that something was wrong.

Right, that makes sense. I'll just use that as the fill hole then. I just thought it was oddly placed, especially since everyone else's I've seen has it on the top of the case.
