I'm building a console to hold my additional light switches, CB, extra gauges, etc. I want run a power supply to a separate fusebox inside (easier access to connections) the new console. Can I run my hot wire directly from the battery?

Yes but an inline fuse near the battery would be a very good idea.

I agree, run a fused line from the battery to the new box. Also, make sure you check voltages on everything. I ran a new line to a fuse box in my Zx2, and it kept busting 30A fuses when my draw from my Cathodes was only about .7A and was previously run in my Ranger to a 2A inline fuse with no problems. I am yet to figure that one out, I just unhooked it for the time being.

You can get some good deals on Amazon.com regarding the fuseblocks. Here's a picture of MiniATC block I was mocking up in my car. I picked it up for about $8, although if you have room I would recommend a fullsize fuse block as that may also be my problem.

This one is a little more pricey, but I plan on buying it when I do some more work on the interior/exterior.

i think i'd opt for a large 60 amp or so inline circuit breaker installed close to the battery. they are very heavy duty and much easier to deal with than fuses. just my $.02.

Thanks for the circuit breaker or inline fuse close to the battery tip, I hadn't thought about that. What gauge wire should I use (battery to fuse box) and what size fuse or circuit breaker?
