I would like to upgrade the stock transmission cooler on my 2005 FX4 ranger which has a 5R55E transmission. What size and type would you recommend, and where could it be purchased from? I tow from time to time. (I have a 16' trailer, which I tow my 2-4 wheelers, HVAC equipment, and have towed my other 1990 ranger behind).

You need to leave the stock one in there and add an auxilliary cooler in the line after it. The stock one is a liquid-liquid heat exchanger which is much more efficient than an aftermarker liquid to air. Its the difference between taking a pizza stone out of the oven with a wet mit compared to taking one out with a dry mit.

Any cooler will work. You can't overcool with it so get the largest one you can fit in whatever space you have to work with. Try Jegs or Summit.
