Alot of the crazies got in last vote. Ours here in Michigan just recently tried (I think, last I heard it was being reconsidered) to basically remove any checks and balances in the government.
How it works is if your municipality is considered to be in economic turmoil (broke, or however they put it) which they decide (either officials or an entity, like a business) to remove any current officials from office, even elected ones, put their officials in, null and void any contracts (pensions, union rights, etc.) and you literally have absolutely no say in how things go down. Originally they could even unincorporate your town.
Last I heard they decided to revise things after several thousand people nearly rioted in front of the state capitol.
Twisted place we live in, it's a shame more don't vote...
