ok my brothers steering box got a bad leak from under the pitman arm the ??? i have is there a seal under the pitman arm he can replace or what ?????:icon_confused:

yes i did one 10 years ago or so. if i remember right the kit was under $20. the hard part was removing the pitman arm

ok one more ??? how would i get the pitman are off is there a puller or can you use a hammer

yeah... don't use a hammer, it makes it leak more sometimes lol.. i think the kit is a little more than $20 now tho. i need to get that kit and installed in mine.

Its a pain to say the least to get it off, I did mine about 2 months ago and its leaking again..Time to replace the whole darned thing!

Try the kit and get a puller if you want to. BUT..If it's leaking now, theres a decent chance that the shaft has a flat spot from wear. Check that out the best you can when you tear it down. If it is worn, take back the kit and get a new or junkyard box.

My truck leaks in the same spot as your bros except I can keep it from leaking if I park the truck with the wheels strait....

i will tell him to check that out thanks for the info but his seal was real bad

I just had my steering box out to replace it. You need a 1 5/16 socket to get the pitman arm off. This is really a job for a large impact wrench, either a strong 1/2" drive or a 3/4" drive. I also needed a large cheater bar to pull the pitman arm with a rented pitman arm puller, that sucker was on really tight! Make sure you put some anti-seize on the splines before reinstalling.
