Do you mean like......... a row-crop front end?
A diesel engine in a tractor!!!!
10 yrs before John Deere ever offered a Diesel in a tri-cycle front end tractor.
Gasoline Start tractors that switch to diesel.....
IH moved the cab, not the fuel tank.... to get a better ride, and to balance the weight.
They also put the first computer in a tractor.... (Sentry program)
A 3 year 2,500 hr engine and drivetrain warranty (that's the standard warranty for all manufacturers now)
The Electrall in the 1950's (it didn't catch on, but it was a great idea.....) to mount generators on tractors that could even power a home....
The first 6passenger 4 door truck.....
You may be familiar with cub cadets...... that's IH too.
I'm not saying IH is flawless, but they are innovators.... John Deere would probably still be using 2 cylinder engines if they hadn't been showed the light.
Frank
but like I said before...... I'm an IH man, I will never like JD.
No amount of arguing or persuasion will change that...
They all have their firsts. The first row crop tractor would have been close to worthless with a cast iron plow.
I had a good chuckle one time at a guy looking at one of those early Farmall diesels at a show. "Why does it say it is a diesel if it has a carb and distributer"
(he hadn't looked at the other side yet)
IH had to pay Allis-Chalmers usage rights for the torque tube design on each of their Cub tractors that was sold, the Cub model later spawned the Cub Cadet line. The A and B also earned A-C money.
John Deere was proud of their two bangers for a long time, but when they moved on to the new generation tractors it was more than a leap in the right direction. They almost took too long like Case did to come out with the new line, but IMO the wait was worth it. The two bangers are fun to mess around with today, but it is an interesting thought what would have happened if they followed Oliver's lead early and went with inline 6's sooner. I love dad's 4020, the controls are above and beyond nice even today... and the 4430 engine is nice too, gawd I love that turbo whistle.
