HELP:

I've located some leaf spring retainer plates from a 79 Bronco w/ a 35 spline 9". These broncos ran 3" wide leaf springs. I'm runnin 2.5" wide springs right now.

Would I be safe to use these?

The guy I could buy them from also has a set of retainer plates from an early bronco with a 9".

IIRC, the EBs used 2.5" wide leafs.

Now I have a 35 spline 9". Is the axle tube a different size? Would the u-bolts still line up with the holes in the plate?

I guess I can just get some plate and drill it out, but that's a bitch, and I'm lazy.

any ideas?

Im pretty sure that no 9" came with 35 splines at least not in the bronco's a full size bronco should have 31 spline, unless its an aftermarket 3rd as you need to run larger bearings to run 35 spline. What im trying to say is that 35 spline shafts fit in a 31 spline BB housing its the stock third that doesnt work. so the housing should be the same as every other 31 spline housing.

I have these HD ubolts and plate on my 9"

They might not be long enough to use with your block and leafs, your better off just making your own plates out of some 1/2"-5/8" plate.

I read that a 9" behind a 400 or bigger engine was 35 spline. I should have counted when I had em apart.

I'm using the spring plates from the explorer 8.8" swap I did a while back. They fit. Some how. Oddly well.

Mitch came over today to help work. Mad props to Oatmealman.

Thanks to the use of my pap's air chizzle, we hacked the rivots and got the hangers tack welded in place. I'll bolt them in tomorrow, after the bed comes off. Damn step side. But it looks so sexy.

The 63s are in, extended shackles are in, now it's just down to mounting those front hangers and then the rear will be a quick finish. Hoorah!

Here's the wheel/tire combo I'll be using on the trail:

The 63s are in:

My random ass Canary Yellow hanger:

And the alcohol induced smiley face on the old OchoPointOcho:

Tomorrow:
Bed off
Drill and bolt hangers
Fasten shit down
Axle mock up etc

I'm hopin to have it bolted in by tomorrow afternoon. Then it's time to relax. And party.

This bitch is going to be off the hook, yo.

Today was a suckandfuck shitty day of work. Tons of issues with the welder and just stupid shit.

Tomorrow the 9" will be bolted up, shock mounts fabbed, and brake lines routed and bled etc.

I need a few weeks off before I start the front. There have just been TONS of little issues. I'll post pics of the build tomorrow. I'm going to have a hell of a time getting this out of the garage.

Thanks to Mitch and a few buds, we got the rear end of the truck in and almost finished today. Tomorrow it's shock mounts, and friday we're re-going-over all our welds with a 220v.

We comp. cut the fenders and it looks ILL. I could clear 44s with ease lol

Here's finally some action shots:
