I've seen that it said that the Lock-Rite can only be used in carriers with 4.10:1 and up. Why is this? Is it for clearing the crosspin past the ring gear, or other reasons?

See, I got one in my 7.5" with 3.73:1s, and I'll be wanting to eventually regear to 4.56:1, so is this gonna be a major problem? Or can a grind the pin and/or gear teeth to get the pin out when the time comes?

Thanks,
Colin.

I think it is a crosspin clearence issue. All that is needed is a little grinding of the ring gear.

I've heard people have had the same issues even with stock 4.10's.

edit: what size of tire are you running?

I'll be running 33x12.50 TSLs.

The 3.73s now have no nuts on the road (relatively: 33s + 2.3L = slow). Just checking, I figured it was cross pin clearance.

Yep I had to grind the ring gear a bit to get my cross-pin out of my 7.5 with 4.10s, 3.73s also need to be ground as well. A notched crosspin wont work with the locker and it's weaker than a full pin anyways.
