I have had two 5.4s and hated them but I'm sure it goes both ways we have a v-10 work truck that is dog. I have a couple friends that have the v-10 in there truck and like it one is even in another Excursion. I'm sure it will get to the mall and store just fine lol
Don't like 95% of all RV's made since the late 90's have the 6.8 V-10 in them?

If the 6.8 is a dog compared to a 5.4, it is a wonder they sold more than 5 trucks in either configuration.

Actually IMO it is a wonder the 5.4 sold as well as it did in a Super Duty.

Dunno what they did, but it turned into a major pooch in a Super Duty compared to a half ton.

No, you wish it had a 5.4L. The 6.8 gets too much flex in the crank shaft, makes it a dog. The 5.4 just feels much better, even in the bigger trucks.
Ummm... no, no and no. This is the most ridiculous thing I've read in a while. Thanks for the laugh :icon_thumby:

I've heard tons of this 6.8L "weak crank" rumour but never seen a lick of solid evidence to prove it. Never had any V10 come into the shop with bottom end issues. The only V10 I've seen in the the shop for anything major was a rat-bagged fleet truck that had old oil in it for well past the recommended interval and below the fill line. At its crank held up just fine, it was the pistons and con-rods that were damaged.

The only V-10's replaced at the local dealer in the past 11 years was a brand new one that had a bad noise during the predelivery inspection (and was "black-boxed" back to Ford for investigation) and a Excursion that tried going 20k on a oil change. The whole thing was full of goop, and pretty much anything that moved declared war on what it ran against.

Coincidently at the same time they were switching engines on the Excursion a E-350 came in with a 5.4 that tried doing the extremly long oil change thing too with similar results, only it was junked.

It was like a epidemic there for awhile. :icon_confused:

Nice rig man. My grandpa has an 04 diesel that looks just like yours except it has the gray trim along the bottom. And the best part is that it has les than 36k on it lol. 17 mpgs and insane power and pull for its size. I hope to own it some day :icon_twisted:

I like the 6.8 and 5.4 for a gas motor in a truck. A local excavation company has an extended wheelbase F350 with a giant utility box and is always dragging a T300 Bobcat eveywhere and has been doing so since 1999--with a 5.4. It sounds like a sewing machine going by. I don't have any experience with either motor, but they way they are set up, they are built for truck service. A long stroke and small valves. I don't think either gives up much to a diesel in such a truck. It's a cheap engine, too.
