i want to remove my power steering

i have a 92 ranger 3.0. my pump has a whining sound and it leaks. id rather just tkae it off how ever i can bypass it with out the pulley there. any ideas?

you will want to replace the steering box with a manual one. If you dont, you will have a severe lack of control unless your a body builder or something. I recommend just replacing the pump.

A whining sound in Ford power steering pumps is normal... It may not sound like it, but it is. My Ranger has done it since I bought it last April.

its leaking too. im not worried about difficulty of turning :headbang:

im just trying to figure out how to bypass it. i was hoping i could put a idleing pulley in place

Just go to a pull-a-part and get one for like $40 and change it. I dont think you want to pull it off.

You'll need to find a serpentine belt that's the right length. It won't be a stock application.

But I really do recommend keeping the power steering. You'll get greater mechanical advantage from a manual steering gear, but it may or may not be enough -- you might need a ridiculously large steering wheel, for instance.

its easier and probly cheaper to change it in the end, since you have to do the box as well

Then it's whining because it's getting air in the lines... :icon_idea:

its whining bc the pump is bad and leaks bc of it. theres no air i keep filling it

Just replace it man, turning a hard as hell to turn wheel gets old, fast. Trust me :icon_thumby:

just replace it.idk if u ever drove a car without power steering but it is a workout.trust me..just replace it
