WELL, looks like I may not be getting my tranny swap done. I have ALL the parts, but my friend who was going to assist me in doing it has gotten a new job and doesn't know if he can take any time off. I cannot afford to have this done at a shop.
I'm about ready to throw in the towel and just sell my rig for a stock 5 speed even if I have to find one out of state.

We got the swap done in two days!

However, we cant get it to run right. It acts like its getting flooded then wont go period. Have no idea why its not starting. We had to install a push button ignition cuz the solenoid isnt working either....what have we done wrong?

WELL, I have some interesting news. I switched the auto computer back in, and the truck works now. Its still a bit shaky on the low rpm range, like its hesitating tho. I have an exhaust leak up by the manifold on the left side that I have to take care of.

I NEED NEED NEED a manual wiring harness!!! Do not have a wiring harness on the tranny yet. Some of the plugs on my man. tranny got bent in transit to me, so I'm going to have to replace them as well.

Not sure why we had to install the push button to avoid the solenoid for the starter....still dumbfounds me.

Tammy, you dont NEED the manual harness.

In the auto harness:
Jump the Red/L. Blue and Pink wires together. Remove the clutch switch jumper and plug it into the clutch switch. That will allow it to crank with the clutch pushed down.

The Red/white wire needs to be grounded when the trans is in neutral (only needed on push button 4x4. Not all trans have, or are drilled for this switch). Switch on right side of shifter plate.

The other 2 wires (I forget the colors, going by memory here.) are for the reverse lights. Switch on left side.

That would effectively give you a manual harness.

OHHHHH. Ok awesome! I saw two wires one on each side towards the rear of the tranny, both were completely disintegrated.

Any ideas on the other stuff?

Its from a 94. Bought it used off ebay. Don't know if it works. The seller doesn't take electronics back either.

So what about the cruise control, how is that taken care of through the wiring harness? Does that go with the clutch switch?

Anybody??? Come on, someone's gotta know something.

Now, my truck started acting up today. It started idling in the 2-3,000's. It won't start right now either. It will chug then choke itself out and not start, and when I do get it running, it idles so high it scares me.

It was running fine all week until today. I can't explain what is going on. I still have the auto computer in there cuz the manual computer I bought wouldn't let the truck start at all...

I'm soooo frustrated right now!!!

I'm at wits end with this damn thing. I've had NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS since I did the swap. First my solenoid on the fender won't start the damn thing, now I have to use a push button start. NOW the clutch line at the slave cylinder is leaking like crazy. I dont know what wires on the engine harness go to the manual trans harness.....I think this was THE BIGGEST mistake I've ever done. Shoulda just left the damn auto trans in and traded it in for a 5 speed explorer.
Anyone want a falling apart explorer?

The problem isnt the swap, its the person who did the swap. There was no reason to cut any harnesses, pinching harness in between the block and trans, etc. This is literally a plug and play swap. Your problems could be fixed rather quickly by someone with Explorer experience, they arent that bad.
