The d30 stays, only a matter of time before the crappy cv joint was going to fail.

I'm not even hard on mine. Didn't help that the boots ripped years ago either.

I wasn't intending on going through a rock and bolder filled creek bed that day either. I was fine till what I think I kicked it out of 4wd to late when I was turning and on pavement going to the offroad park parking lot. That's when the noise started. I have yet to even try 4lo, the granny low first gear worked great all day but I want to take the pressure off it.

And that's why I went with the D44. I wasn't expecting to get crazy with my tuck but I get carried away. Now I'm gathering the essentials for 1 tons. Thinking about building a rear 609 for her...

The 44 and 30 use the same u joints and pinion size. There really isn't that much strength difference between the two. The 44 does have stronger inner c's and thicker axle tubes. But reinforce those weak points on the 30 and all is good. I've wheeled my 30 for 5 years and only replaced on u joint. Just saying.

Yeah, the 30 and 44 (and even 35TTB for that matter) are pretty close strengthwise.

Going d44 would also make me have to get different rims and other things I can't afford.

I knew the 35ttb was close in strength but I didn't know the 30 was that close.

The d30 has better aftermarket and fewer moving parts.

Than the 35? Definitely fewer moving parts. I would have thought the 30 would be considerably weaker than a 44 though.

Close enough that if the 30 won't do it you might as well skip to the 60.

I think the 35 is somewhere between the 30 and 44 but I don't know that the difference is huge.

It's between with the ring and pinion gear being slightly stronger.

Just learned this. A 95 crown vic calipers and pads are bigger and will bolt to an explorer 8.8 rear end that already has disk brakes ofc. The pad part number from autozone is DG674A. You gotta watch which calipers you have. The pistons are steel and some are "phenolic "plastic... The hole on the middle of the piston is smaller on the plastic then the steel or larger clips. That part number is for the little hole and plastic calipers.
