i bought the 6 diode. Of course there are spots were the light is brighter, but it is right where the bulbs are. It doesn't bother me, as before i couldn't see anything on the left side, and now i have full visibility of the gauges. I don't have any burn through or anything like that

Quart Crate came in. woot.

Those guys are making some serious money on them. No welding at all. I assume just cnc'd out and bent up with a brake. Easy money.

yup aint much to them, i did weld the corners on mine just to stiffen it up some before i threw some paint on it. feels much more solid after doing so.

Got the Quart Crate welded up and painted.

Organized my toolbox pretty good

I should've taken a pic of what it looked like before. Stuff was literally thrown in there. Looks like I have way too much gear oil too. haha.

Getting this Crate has sparked an interest in fully organizing my toolbox. I'd like to carry enough to replace all the fluids in my truck too (engine, rad, trans, crawl box, t-case, diffs). I'm going to measure all my tools, fluids, and spare parts and try to find a way to package it all in my toolbox to utilize the space as efficiently as possible.

you shoulda looked in my toolbox at TB :icon_rofl: i had stuffed crammed in there and every little nook and cranny.

thats one goal on the explorer is to be able to keep everything organized and where it belongs.

still havent found me a decent toolbox thats big enough for my tools but not huge. they are all way too small or way too big :annoyed:

I got my LEDs installed today. They're fawkin bright. I went with the 4 diode LEDs rather than the single inverted ones. Way brighter. I'll be replacing the ones in my AC panel with the 4 diode ones as well.

The dead spots exist with both the 4 diode LEDs and the inverted singles ones, so it didn't matter which one I used. I went with the brighter of the two.

Pic doesn't even do it justice. I have my dimmer almost as dim as it will go, otherwise its a distraction while driving. lol.

Oh yeah, I finally zip tied my plate to my bumper too.

It may be slightly, but not as much as the pic makes it look like. When I put the 4.0 in, I had to put a bend in my trac bar, which pulled the axle to the driver's side. Still, it didn't pull it over as much as it looks in that pic. Idk.Everything's the same as it was when I wheeled TB.

I ordered new joints and shit to build a new trac bar with the bend to the correct length from Ballistic. As some of you can imagine, I've been waiting for it come come in for quite some time.

I've been researching lockers pretty hardcore the past couple days. I really want to get my rear end locked up. Tires are stupid expensive anymore, and I beat on mine enough, so I'd like to go selectable if at all possible.

I really like the idea of an electromagnet actuating the locker.

I thought I'd share some of the discussion I've had with Eaton regarding their E-Locker. I removed some stuff to shorten it up a bit. I made sure he knew what my build consisted of currently, terrain it sees, future tire size, etc etc.

To whom it may concern,
I am locking my Ford 8.8 rear differential. I am considering your E-Locker as my traction device. My vehicle sees harsh offroad conditions, as well as daily driving duties. I would rather go selectable, but the more I research, I don't like the inherent potential for failure that comes with a selectable locker.

I've read that your 8.8 E-Locker uses a pin engagement. Intuition tells me that this is prone to failure over time. The ends of the pins will round, and will fail to lock the differential. I guess you guys have a collar style E-Locker as well? Why wasn't this design implemented into the 8.8 locker?

Convince me that your E-Locker will provide years of worry free service. If your 8.8 locker had a collar style engagement, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it (assuming the rest of the construction was up to par). The pin engagement concerns me.

Thanks in advance for your insight!

Thank you for the interest in Eaton differentials. The ELocker line was originated, tested and approved for use with the Unites States military. Since the ELocker origin, they have been evolving (reference the latest 4 pinion design for the Dana 30 application). With that said and because of proprietary testing information, I cannot go into what/how these units are tested but will say that we are the only differential manufacture that has its own proving grounds.

What does all this mean right? The point is that we have the ability to constantly improve our products as the markets evolve, and that is where we are currently at with the pin style ELockers. That is all I can divulge at this time.

Feel free to email me or call for any additional questions.

Thanks for the prompt response!

Knowing I'm pushing the limit of my drivetrain is the reason I came to you guys with my questions. I want to be sure that your locker will not become the weak link in my rearend. A broken shaft can be replaced on the trail relatively easily; a grenaded locker is a different story.

ARB is probably your biggest competitor, and is another option I'm considering. Honestly, I'm not a fan of pneumatic actuating lockers. Seals and fittings can leak. Air hoses can rip. Housing a compressor is a pain.

That being said, they have been proven in industry, and have a great reputation. I'm a fan on their collar style gear engagement, and they have published the results of their testing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewt7f-h8Wn4

Can you guys offer any technical data regarding some of the testing that you do? Breaking strength under certain conditions?

I want to design my rearend such that the axleshaft is the weak link. I would like to have hard data that shows that the locker can withstand a higher load than my alloy axleshaft can.

Thanks again!

Sorry but no. All testing and testing data is in house. I agree that ARB makes a great differential, but also agree that they are higher maintenance than most.

Good luck with your build,

They're not giving me very much confidence in their product.

Just to add more fodder to your thought process:

1) I have not seen an ARB that doesn't leak (at least somehwat) within one season of wheeling (Multiple applicatoins, the onest that don't leak tend to be in Comp buggies, but that may be because they're often in their pumpkins).

2) Its been awhile since I've looked at the E locker stuff, but from what I can recall (and some things I've seen). This information is dated I'm sure..
- Its more like an LSD/Locker. So as the clutch packs wear, you will eventually lose locking ablity (I don't konw if that design has changed)
- You need to have one full revolution of the 'free' wheel before putting power to the differential. I.E. One wheel is spining, hit the locker, Let the free wheel spin one more rev before the locker engages. Add to this, the failures that I've seen on these lockers have been from people rocking the vehicle back and forth (not hard full throttle rocks either).

Again, My E locker info is probably dated, but the fact that they won't share anything with you would make me shop elsewhere. That's way too much money to gamble with in my mind.

Have you looked at the Ox lockers? Do they even make an applicatoin for the 8.8? Those are about the only selectables that seem to work, once you get the cable adjusted that is.

Honestly, I'd just throw an aussie in the rear and forget it. Yup tires are expensive, don't drive likea retard around corners and you won't kill tires that fast. Alternatively, just buy some cheap road tires and rock on.

Hope my rambling helps.
